ROADSIDE LIDAR

Roadside LiDAR sensors are installed at an intersection or roadway on a signal pole or streetlight for the purposes of collecting traffic data. LiDAR sensors can be installed permanently for real-time systems or temporarily for post analysis. The generated results are multimodal traffic trajectories where each road user - passenger vehicles, heavy vehicles, bicyclists, pedestrians, wheelchairs, and wildlife - are detected and classified. Each road user is accurately georeferenced along their trajectory path. From the trajectory data, counts and speed can be determined. Furthermore, the interaction between road users can be measured to understand the safety of the site at a microscopic level. Operational performance measures such as capacity, queue length, and delay can be determined.
